The 1934 Thompson House Car was one of the most unique mobile homes ever built. Designed and manufactured by the Seri Thompson Company in Watervliet, New York, this vehicle was like a small house on wheels.
At 34 feet long, 12 feet wide, and 9 feet tall – there was enough room for a family of four to live. The upper level had two double beds. Below was a living room, dining room, and a fully equipped kitchen. The doors and windows were designed just like a regular house.
Powered by a 60 horsepower, 6-cylinder gasoline engine, the mobile home could reach a top speed of 60 miles per hour. A 100-gallon fuel tank allowed it to drive continuously for 500 miles without refueling. With an original price of $5,200 when new, the 1934 Thompson House Car was truly a one-of-a-kind, convenient mobile dwelling. It provided freedom and flexibility for those who wanted to travel while enjoying the comforts of home.
